Freezing cold outside…

Texas is generally NOT a very cold place. Winters for us are usually pretty mild when compared to states further north, and very rarely have days when temperatures fall below freezing point. This winter has been extremely cold for many, we even got some snow down here which apparently had not happened in 10 years or so. Thankfully we were in Puerto Rico enjoying the warm weather when that happened and I thought that would all be behind us after we got back. But boy was I wrong.

On Monday the temperature was somewhat OK during the day (maybe in the lower 50s°F, which is cold for me but manageable) but when evening came the temperatures began to drop really fast. I had been so busy at work that day that by the time I got home, made dinner and cleaned up afterwards it was pass 8:00 pm and I was not feeling like working out, especially since I planned to go work out at the gym the next morning and wanted to be rested. So instead of doing 30 minutes on the elliptical I decided to put on my warm pajamas and get under the covers and read for the remainder of the evening.

The next morning, well I would say this picture was literally me when I walked out the door. I had a gym session scheduled but my trainer cancelled last minute so I decided to go into the office earlier than I had planned. Made sure I had a thick coat, some Kleenex in my work bag and big steaming hot cup of coffee by the time I arrived at work. At noon, my meeting was over so it was time to head back home and work from home the rest of the day, however my car now had a thick layer of ice covering it’s entire surface (F*ck) so I had to sit in the car while it warmed up and it defrosted so I could drive home, only to have to deal with reckless drivers on the road. Some people are just so inconsiderate. By this time there’s heavy sleet falling and everything is covered in a thin layer of ice and the forecast called for lower temperatures in the evening. Thankfully I’m able to work from home and not have to worry about being on the road more than I have to.

Today it’s even worse, temperatures this morning were under 20°F (which apparently has not happened in over 20 years in this area), given the amount of snow and sleet that feel yesterday and through the night, pretty much everything is closed today, including main roads. No gym again for me.

Texas Closed

I’ll probably won’t be able to get in a good workout this week, so I’ll have to retake my gym routine next week and just do some more cardio at home for the remainder of the week. Thankfully I have an elliptical machine I bought last year that had gone unused for all this time and now is seeing some action because there’s no way I’m leaving the warm comfort of our house unless I absolutely need to.

I really hope it starts to warm up soon. Tomorrow and Friday I’ve got some work meetings scheduled so I will be out and this weather is just making me want to stay home, bundled up and eat. I was not built to live in this type of weather, not even for a few days.

If you happen to be somewhere under similar conditions, please be careful and keep warm!

Thank you for keeping up with me and my ranting.
